Explanation of your choice of a nursing specialty within the program.

The choice of nursing specialty is Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). This is because there has a rising demand for PMHNP, and the demand is expected to continue rising as awareness of mental and psychiatric issues increases. The projected job growth outlook for PMHNP is good. Much of the public stigma that had been stubbornly linked to the idea of seeking psychiatric care has been eliminated as individuals become more aware of their mental health struggles and are encouraged to seek professional help. In becoming a PMHNP, I expect to be in a position where my services would be in high demand to meet the needs of patients in diagnosing and treating their mental health disorders. In essence, there is a need for mental health care professionals, and I feel that becoming a PMHNP would allow me to apply myself in serving my community (Steele, 2022). Discussion Post Essay Paper

Describe any difficulties you had (or are having) in making your choice, and the factors that drove/are driving your decision.

Making the career choice was challenging as it involved locating promising career alternatives, collecting information about the available career choices, comparing the alternatives on the short list of career choices, and choosing one career that is best fitting. The most difficult aspect of making the choice was inspecting and evaluating the assessments on the different career choices. Much of eth assessment has a well-defined focus with reliable evidence. However, the validity of the evidence should be improved as much of what occurs in real life differs from the evidence. For instance, the evidence talks of PMHNP being in demand, yet financial realities limit the number of nurses that can be employed (Wakefield et al., 2021).

Identify at least one professional organization affiliated with your chosen specialty and provide details on becoming a member.

A professional organization affiliated with PMHNP is the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA). This is a member-driven organization that supports its members by providing them with education, resources and dynamic collaboration to help them in professional work and development. Membership in the organization is inclusive to all PMHNP at all education levels and settings, unifying their voices in negotiating and discussing the issues affecting them. Becoming a member in the organization requires payment of set annual subscriptions. Regular, affiliate and internal nurses pay an annual membership fee of $135, military and retired nurses pay an annual membership fee of $75, and student nurses pay an annual membership of $25 (American Psychiatric Nurses Association, 2022).
