We will be discussing topics related to maternal and newborn postpartum care that are reviewed with parents prior to their discharge. Each student will have an opportunity to be the nurse, sharing information with the new parents, and also listen to other students present their topic and ask questions. Maternal Newborn Discharge Teaching
Topics will be randomly assigned the week before simulation, giving you the opportunity to prepare a brief, 10-minute, presentation. Students may have notes or written instructions for your client and any other useful material. Remember we are addressing newborn and postpartum issues that can occur in the first six weeks after birth. Each topic is listed below with suggestions on areas to focus, you may add your own as well. Please prepare and understand your subject matter well, you should not be consistently reading off your notes. Maternal Newborn Discharge Teaching
Students will also be assuming the role of the client and receiving information. After each nurse has completed their discussion, you may either “teach back” or ask questions.
