Walden University and the College of Nursing also have a vision and mission, which include helping you to make your own vision a reality. Members of your new academic community, such as faculty, support teams, and fellow students, can also be helpful. Current practitioners and other member of the professional community can also help you to clarify your vision.
This Module’s Discussion asks you to consider how the Walden mission and vision as well as the College of Nursing’s mission and vision apply to your professional and academic goals. You will also begin to identify individuals and teams who can help you along the way as you begin designing the “blueprint”—your Academic Success and Professional Development Plan—that will guide you toward your own vision for academic and professional success. Finally, you will explain the importance of networking and how it can help you achieve your professional and academic goals.
Note: Unless otherwise noted, initial postings to Discussions are due on or before Day 3, and response postings are due on or before Day 6. You are required to participate in the Discussion on at least three different days (a different day for main post and each response). It is important to adhere to the weekly time frame to allow others ample time to respond to your posting. In addition, you are expected to respond to questions directed toward your own initial posting in a timely manner.

Firstly, the university vision is to present knowledge that offers immediate solutions for the critical societal challenges. I am interested in nursing advances and seek to gain advanced education that would strategically position me to influence the direction and content of nursing evolution. Secondly, the university mission is to enable learners to transform into scholar-practitioners who can effect positive social change. I believe that the program will equip me with the tool to generate nursing knowledge and apply that knowledge to influence policies as an expert (Walden University, 2022a).
Thirdly, the university goals focus on matching students with the right capabilities to meet challenges in the practice environment. The education program includes modules that meet my needs as a nurse, even as it equips me with the tools (such as networking with other nurses) to advance my career. Fourthly, the university perspective on social change reflective intentionality targeted at creating and applying positive social change that improves communities. This perspective is in line with my philosophy as my motivation for being a nurse with to help others. In a way, practicing as a nurse allows me to create positive social change with the MSN program presenting more tools to create and apply positive social change (Walden University, 2022a).
Besides that, the outcomes indicated for the MSN program are aligned with my goal to improve my capabilities as a nurse and access more resources that support my career and practice. There are seven learning outcomes identified for the program, all focusing on improving nursing capabilities, ongoing professional development, and specialization. Through completing the MSN program, I expect to improve my nursing capabilities, undergo professional development, and specialize in a nursing area (Walden University, 2022b).
Even as I completed the MSN program, I will leverage the available networking opportunities to achieve my professional and academic goals. The networking will be useful for exchanging ideas, making me noticeable, opening up new opportunities, reassessing my qualifications, improving my creative intellect, acting as a source of information, and improving self-confidence. Besides that, networking strengthens professional connections, raises my professional profile, advances my career, gain more knowledge, get career advice and support, gain a different perspective, and get answers to questions (Zaccagnini & Pechacek, 2019).
