Personal Leadership Philosophies
Develop and submit a personal leadership philosophy that reflects what you think are characteristics of a good leader. Use the scholarly resources on leadership you selected to support your philosophy statement. Your personal leadership philosophy should include the following:
A description of your core values.
A personal mission/vision statement.
An analysis of your Clifton Strengths Assessment summarizing the results of your profile
A description of two key behaviors that you wish to strengthen.
A development plan that explains how you plan to improve upon the two key behaviors you selected and an explanation of how you plan to achieve your personal vision. Be specific and provide examples.
Be sure to incorporate your colleagues’ feedback on your CliftonStrengths Assessment from this Module’s Discussion 2.

Personal Leadership Philosophies
Leadership is one of those tasks that require some innate abilities and talents to effectively lead others and make them collectively achieve a common goal with you. Every leader has their strengths and weaknesses. A good leader capitalizes on their strengths and uses the strengths of others to complement his or her weaknesses. The purpose of this paper is to discuss personal strengths as a leader in the context of leadership philosophies.
A Description of My Core Values
As a leader my core values relate to the fact that I am a transformational leader and they are honesty, integrity, empathy, perseverance, and hard work. Transformational leadership is what motivates employees to achieve and creates a favorable workplace (Choi et al., 2016). Being honest makes the other people you lead trust because you keep to what you say. You also tell people the truth about their abilities and competencies and you do not lie to them. Saying what you feel exactly about another person without cheating them to appear correct or to remain likeable is therefore an all-important core value for me. Secondly, having integrity means that as a leader I can be relied upon to carry sensitive information without divulging it. Integrity is therefore about confidentiality and the ability not to be compromised easily. Empathy refers to the ability of a leader to put themselves in the shoes of the others whom he/ she leads. This way, they will be able to correctly identify a follower who is in trouble and who needs help before it is too late. Many workplaces have issues to do with psychological safety and workplace violence and this core value is therefore indispensable for a leader to have (Sfantou et al., 2017). Lastly but not least, the core value of perseverance helps me as a leader in taking time to understand my followers. A Personal Vision/ Mission Statement
My personal vision statement is concerned with making myself better with the objective of helping others better. By this is meant that I will strive to acquire knowledge through lifelong learning and will sharpen my leadership skills continuously in order to better lead and achieve results with followers. The vision statement is therefore: To become the best leader in a healthcare setting capable of satisfying the needs of the organization and the followers/ subordinates.
Analysis of My CliftonStrengths Assessment
Clifton StrengthsFinder is a type of personality test assessment originally developed by the educational psychologist Donald Clifton. It is built on the concept of positive psychology and describes who you are by revealing what your behavior, feelings, and thought processes actually are (Gallup, n.d.; Freeburg, 2014). The strengths identified are referred to as “talents” (Fauske, 2018). In my assessment, the strengths or “talents” that were revealed were ‘learner,’ ‘developer,’ ‘includer,’ ‘intellection,’ and ‘positivity’ (Fauske, 2018; Freeburg, 2014; Gallup, n.d.). By knowing these strengths, I intend to use them to become a better person and leader. More importantly, I intend to use these strengths to help others achieve their goals by empowering them (Asiri et al., 2016).
Two Behaviors to be Strengthened and a Development Plan
The two key behaviors that I would wish to have strengthened are servant leadership and selflessness. As a nurse leader, these are behaviors that are very helpful in the provision of holistic care both directly and by delegation. They almost always invariably result in the delivery of quality care that produces the best patent outcomes. I plan to achieve my personal vision my enrolling for nursing education up to the highest level possible of a doctorate. I also will continue to seek every opportunity for continuous professional development and make use of them. My plan to improve upon the two key behaviors above includes always applying Watson’s Theory of Human Caring and being guided always by Dorothea Orem’s Self-Care Deficit Theory (SCDT) in my practice (Pajnkihar et al., 2017; Borji et al., 2017).
