The problem identified is patient and family engagement during a pandemic. The intention is to collect the perceptions of patients and family on how they can be engaged during Covid-19 pandemic, to include the prevention and treatment periods. A qualitative research design is appropriate for the problem since we do not know what to expect. With this design, the participants can provide new information and themes that would be used to go deeper into the issue of interest and explore the nuances related to the problem. In applying a qualitative design, the study would be able to answer questions about perspective, meaning and experiences that explore the standpoints of the participants. This data is not amenable to measuring or counting. As such, small group discussions will be used to investigate perspectives and attitudes, and in-depth interviews used to understand experiences from a personal perspective (Hammarberg, Kirkman & de Lacey, 2016). In applying this design, it will be possible to reveal what is working and what is not working, thus leading to an amended approach that can include family members without exposing them to significant health risks. Besides that, the population cannot be identified as the issue affects almost every person so that a qualitative approach would research persons who may not usually volunteer. When the researchers invite participants to talk about their opinions, they are likely to learn more than they set out to discover, demonstrating their expectations and constructions, thus presenting new themes (Hammarberg, Kirkman & de Lacey, 2016).

What level of evidence (research design) would best address the problem?
Level III evidence that is obtained from a single non-experimental qualitative study. That is because it explores opinions on the issue without introducing an intervention. In this case, very little is known about the subject matter. In using this level of evidence, the research can proceed in a naturalistic setting (Dang, Dearholt & Bissett, 2021).

Patient and family engagement during a pandemic emerged as an important aspect of society and healthcare. The emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic played an important role in the life of patients and their families globally. Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) were said to be the most common complications for those affected (Clavel, 2021). The family bonds were broken as patients and more family members got admitted for treatment. For instance, children, parents, and other siblings fell sick and most families were separated their members. In addition, some patients were dying as a result of the infection and this brought misery to the families. The healthcare organizations came up with measures that largely targeted family and patient caregivers. The family responsibilities increased during the infection prevention strategies where routine hygiene and wearing of masks limited the roles of family caregivers. The coming of the pandemic urgently brought restrictive policies which were swiftly enacted without involving stakeholders (Clavel, 2021).
This article is beneficial to the assigned topic because it brings about a consensus framework through which Q methodology is used. The study will help in increasing the knowledge and understanding about how the families and patients can be engaged during infection prevention during a pandemic. The consensus framework development about patient and family linkage in the Infection prevention and control (IPAC) could help in defining patients and families strategies and roles which support the engagement aspect of patient safety (Clavel, 2021). The article when applied from the patient and family’s point of view during the pandemic will help in reducing some critical issues that have been experienced. For instance, the article through the consensus framework will help patients and families overcome some of the social issues being experienced today.
