Where in the World Is Evidence-Based Practice

March 21, 2010, was not EBP’s date of birth, but it may be the date the approach “grew up” and left home to take on the world.
When the Affordable Care Act was passed, it came with a requirement of empirical evidence. Research on EBP increased significantly. Application of EBP spread to allied health professions, education, healthcare technology, and more. Health organizations began to adopt and promote EBP.
In this Discussion, you will consider this adoption. You will examine healthcare organization websites and analyze to what extent these organizations use EBP.  Where in the World Is Evidence-Based Practice

Where in the World Is Evidence-Based Practice?

Evidence based practice (EBP) is a clinical problem solving technique used by nurses, where the approach utilizes quality designed studies as evidence in health delivery services. The approach offers nurses and clinicians with skills in quality decision making when offering patient care. According to Hoff et al (2019), the use of Evidence Based practice in healthcare is attributed to multiple benefits among them being reduced healthcare costs, improved patient outcomes and reduction of nurse fatigue associated with work overload.

The American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) is one of the nursing organizations that I believe incorporates and support EBP in its roles. The AANP is a nurse practitioner organization attributed to empowering nurses towards equitable, accessible, high quality and patient centered healthcare services (Lehane et al., 2019). It executes its roles through advocacy, research, practice, leadership and education of quality healthcare towards individuals and communities. The members of the organization constitute of nurse practitioners and nurse practitioner students. The AANP currently has more than 121000 members who work together towards patient care (Thomas, 2021). I realized that EBP was greatly utilized in AANP while I was exploring the organization’s website. Some of the areas that I felt EBP had been intensely utilized in AANP are practice based website, press room site and research opportunities site. After a thorough research on AANP’s website, I was fortunate to come across a document with details of nurse practitioner engagements in opioid epidemic and medically assisted treatment. The documentation contained an insightful information on how nurse practitioners assist patients with opioid disorders towards improving their conditions (Goolsby & DuBois, 2017). The documentation also involved statistical data since opioid crisis has been termed as national public health emergence. Tools such as graphs and infographics were utilized to present and provide a review of the opioid crisis. The documentation is therefore an EBP that can be utilized by nurses towards improving the outcomes of opioid patients as well as reducing their treatment costs.

As a future nurse practitioner, my aim is to become a member of s professional nurse practitioner organization that embraces evidence based practice. My goal is also to major in advocacy to ensure that I touch as many lives as possible at communal levels. Utilizing evidence based practice will help me acquire the skills of quality decision making while delivering healthcare services to my patients.  Where in the World Is Evidence-Based Practice

Discussion: Where in the World Is Evidence-Based Practice?

March 21, 2010, was not EBP’s date of birth, but it may be the date the approach “grew up” and left home to take on the world.

When the Affordable Care Act was passed, it came with a requirement of empirical evidence. Research on EBP increased significantly. Application of EBP spread to allied health professions, education, healthcare technology, and more. Health organizations began to adopt and promote EBP.

In this Discussion, you will consider this adoption. You will examine healthcare organization websites and analyze to what extent these organizations use EBP.

To Prepare:

  • Review the Resources and reflect on the definition and goal of EBP.
  • Choose a professional healthcare organization’s website (e.g., a reimbursing body, an accredited body, or a national initiative).
  • Explore the website to determine where and to what extent EBP is evident.
